Tuesday 10th June 2014 – 6.43am – Murray MacGregor.

The driver of a car was left hanging by his seatbelt with reports of petrol leaking after the vehicle crashed and ended up on its side in Birmingham late last night (Monday).
The crash happened near the junction of Holloway and Merritts Brook Lane in Northfield at around 11.50pm.

A rapid response vehicle, an ambulance, a paramedic area support officer and the MERIT Trauma Doctor were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews found a car that had rolled over suffering significant damage. The driver, a man estimated to be in his 20s was suspended by his seatbelt within the car and seemed disorientated.

“As crews were preparing to extract him, he suddenly got out of the car himself.

“The man had suffered significant chest injuries including suspected fractured ribs and possible internal bleeding.

“He was immobilised and taken on blue lights to the major trauma centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.”
